Sarah Ritter

A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles and the École Nationale de Paris-Cergy, Sarah Ritter employs a heuristic approach.

She does not work in series, but rather through the accumulation of images that, over time, find their own order and associative logic. The process is therefore a lengthy one, allowing the photographs to mature and to pair up—either formally or metaphorically.

She published a monograph with Éditions Loco in 2019, “La nuit craque sous nos doigts,” accompanied by a previously unpublished piece by Christophe Fiat. Her work has been included in two public collections—those of the FRAC Auvergne and the FNAC—since 2020. It has been exhibited in France (at the Centre photographique d’Ile-de-France, Rencontres d’Arles, and the Mulhouse Biennale, among others) and abroad (in Finland, Germany, Slovakia, and Mexico).

She is currently an artist-in-residence at the Mignotgraphie print shop, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, and co-directs the art research project “  Leviathan  ” at the Clermont-Métropole School of Fine Arts. 

« The Shadow of the Earth “”, the first chapter of which was supported by the CNAP, is initially an exploration of the spaces where knowledge is produced, particularly in the field of optics. This second chapter, launched in collaboration with the Institut pour la photographie in Lille, will focus on extraction—both contemporary and historical—as it intersects with the sciences.
