Under the sun, exactly…

Since its launch in 2019, the Institut pour la photographie Fellowship has supported 20 recipients and explored five different themes by combining various approaches to photography. 

The fifth anniversary of this unique program supporting research and creation—which the Institut pour la photographie is delighted to celebrate in partnership with the Jeu de Paume—provides an opportunity to look back at some of the projects that have been supported, just as its sixth edition has begun.

Dialogue Between Heaven and Earth featuring Théodora Barat, Four Corners, and David de Beyter, The Skeptics

A Photographic Dialogue Between Landscapes and Collective Imaginaries. Théodora Barat conducted research on the desert landscapes of the southwestern United States, sites of the nuclear research program, while David de Beyter focused on locations in Spain that have inspired extraterrestrial imagery, navigating the tension between fear and fascination with the atom and scientific ufology.

Roundtable Discussion - Resist, Tell Stories

With Maxime Boidy, Images and Myths of the Workers' Resistance Movements in France , Nina Ferrer-Gleize, writing, Advocating, Storytelling (research based on the archives of the Somme's "cahiers de doléances"), and Émilie Goudal, Through Agnès Varda’s eyes, “to follow all the turmoil and charms of decolonization.” This roundtable discussion will explore the active and complementary roles of photography and speech within movements of protest, emancipation, and resistance.

Vanessa Desclaux and Agnès Geoffray take a multifaceted approach to exploring the figures of girls considered “deviant” through the history of juvenile detention and juvenile justice in the 20th century. They examine the many forms their indiscipline, rebellion, and desire for emancipation took.
