Study Day - Photo Africa 2020
The Institut pour la photographie invites Afrique in visu to a day of discussions focused on photography collectives from the African continent, featuring Imane Djamil, Lynn S. K., Seydou Camara, and Rodrigue Mbock.
Afrique in visu is a living archive and a documentation platform focused on the evolution of photographic practices in Africa and among the continent’s diaspora. There is no classification system, nor any attempt to claim the existence of a single history of African photography. Rather, it presents a multitude of stories from a continent, told through interviews and essays on visual artists who seek to renew narratives and imaginaries.
A resource for researchers, authors, curators, and the general public whose value grows over time. Launched in 2006 in Mali by Jeanne Mercier and Baptiste de Ville d’Avray, Afrique in visu has published more than 1,200 articles, has about 100 contributors worldwide, has organized numerous exhibitions in Europe and Africa, has held photography training workshops, has supported about 15 photography projects, and more.
