Educational Resource - PERSPECTIVES

This third exhibition program is intended to provide an overview of the Institute’s project and ambitions before its site closes for renovations.

The Institut pour la photographie is home to the archives of photographers Bettina Rheims, Jean-Louis Schoellkopf, and Agnès Varda. PERSPECTIVES thus offers the public a first look at these collections: three iconic projects from Bettina Rheims’ career, along with a virtual tour of her studio; a reconstruction of Agnès Varda’s first photography exhibition; and a selection of iconic projects by Jean-Louis Schoellkopf. An exhibition dedicated to the layout of photography books has also been curated based on the first donation from Lucien Birgé’s private collection, which will enrich the Institut pour la photographie’s library with more than 25,000 volumes.

PERSPECTIVES also showcases contemporary art with brand-new exhibitions by two recipients of our research and creation support program. Aurélien Froment presents his project centered on set photographs by Pierre Zucca (1943–1995). Ezio d’Agostino’s *True Faith* explores photography’s ability to document the phenomenon of religious apparitions in Italy. Moroccan artist Yoriyas, meanwhile, takes over the building’s outdoor spaces with images created during his residency in the Lille metropolitan area, working alongside parkour practitioners from the Parkour59 association.

Finally, the private collection of Nadine and Paul Catry, who are native to the region, offers an opportunity to revisit vernacular photography—and more specifically, family photography. In keeping with its mission, and with a particular focus on the various forms and uses of the photographic medium, the Institut pour la photographie invites you to discover these ten exhibitions, which are once again free and open to the general public.
