Roundtable Discussion on the Work of Hugo Clarence Janody

As part of the exhibition I'll stop by or write   by Hugo Clarence Janody—join us for an afternoon of discussion on Sunday, May 14, at 3:00 p. m. At the Institut pour la photographie. 

The idea of documenting exile at the border connects, here in our Hauts-de-France region, with the work of photographers Hugo Clarence Janody, Aimée Thirion, and Julien Pitinome (Collectif œil, La Friche, Labo 148) and journalists Sheerazad Chekaik-Chaila and Stéphane Dubromel. To mark the occasion, a series of meetings and discussions will be held, along with a screening of the documentary listen to the walls come crashing down, from the La Friche collective.

*Listen to the Walls Fall* is a feature-length documentary structured as a diptych set at opposite ends of France. Two journeys guided by the perspectives of the people who live in each place. In Marseille, a dilapidated apartment complex in the southern part of the city is surrounded by walls separating it from neighboring private residences. In Calais, barriers and barbed wire seek to repel and render invisible the exiles eager to reach England to build a better life there. *Écoute les murs tomber* tells the story of how people—driven by the desire to come and go, to live, and to break free from prohibitions and dead ends—overcome, alone or collectively, the forces that confine, hinder, and constrain them. In the face of walls, *Écoute les murs tomber* offers paths of hope and transcendence.
