Julien Pitinome

Born in northern France, Julien has a background in social work, and his work reflects this, as seen in his latest series on police violence and the situation of refugees in Calais.

He divides his time between Roubaix and Paris, working in several areas of photography: press, photojournalism, corporate, performing arts, and dance. 

In the media industry, he co-founded the ŒIL Collective and is part of the team that relaunched the publication of FUMIGENE MAG in 2015. A newspaper that describes itself as “ committed, positive, independent, and socially conscious, driven by suburbanites, community activists, reporters, artists, and other advocates ", whose goal is to promote social cohesion by highlighting community-based initiatives that have emerged from working-class neighborhoods, as well as their founders, " the street rebels, the people who blend the cultures of this Republic, those who shatter stereotypes and xenophobic rhetoric, and who create hope and a sense of direction—to which those who have lost theirs can cling… "To breathe new life into activism." Julien Pitinome also writes on commission for media outlets such as Télérama, Libération, Médiacité, L’Humanité, Médiapart, etc.

in Roubaix, he co-founded the collective of socially conscious journalists, La Friche and coordinates the LAB 148, a content production agency that bridges journalism and the arts, working with young people aged 15 to 30 at La Condition Publique. Based in Labo 136 at La Condition Publique, he shares a studio with other artists where he has returned to the practice of film photography. With support from the Hauts-de-France Institut pour la photographie, La Condition Publique, and the Collectif EYE , he is working on the construction of a street photography camera called the Afghan Box with the Condition Publique FabLab. 

For several years now, Julien has been working to preserve a contemporary photographic record of the places and spaces … that he inhabits or discovers. As part of this effort, he is undertaking a family portrait project that will bring together portraits of people he has met throughout France. 

In 2022, together with the collective La Friche, he co-directed the documentary film “Écoute les murs tomber.” Together with Labo 148, they designed the exhibition in collaboration with FRAC Grand Large, Desirable Futures at the Condition Publique in Roubaix. With the collective EYE , Julien is undertaking a photography residency focused on youth empowerment and the production of a magazine dedicated to young people in the Nièvre region.
