The Last Weekend of Spring

↘︎ 3:00 p. m. - Storytelling performance Inland Voyage by Quentin Pruvost, In the Footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson

This reading recounts Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1876 canoe journey along the Sambre and Oise rivers. Alternating between humorous, contemplative, and dramatic moments, the journey is punctuated by unexpected discoveries brought to life through the projection of photographs by Quentin Pruvost. The performance by Hervé Leroy and Jean-Philippe Mailliez—actors and playwrights—brings to life Robert Louis Stevenson’s whimsical and fantastical vision, as if he were present in the audience. Throughout the performance, Timothée Couteau, accompanied by two cellos, provides the musical rhythm that drives the simultaneous progression of the narrative and the journey itself.

↘︎ 5:00 p. m. - Launch of the Institute's Notebooks

The Carnets is a collection conceived by the Hauts-de-France Institut pour la photographie as part of its program to promote its archival collections of photographers’ works, in collaboration with the publishing house delpire & co.

The first notebooks in the collection, dedicated to Agnès Varda, will be previewed at the Institut pour la photographie in Lille during the closing weekend of its spring program, on Saturday, June 17, at 5:00 p. m. They accompany, respectively, the two eponymous traveling exhibitions: Expo54, exhibited at the Institut pour la photographie in 2021, then at the Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki in 2022, and La Pointe Courte: From Photographs to Film , which will be presented at the Rencontres d’Arles this summer.

A Third Notebook Kim Harlow, Stories will support Bettina Rheims’ work in connection with her exhibition scheduled for this fall, from November 2 to December 24.

The publication of these first notebooks marks the realization of the fifth mission announced by the Institut pour la photographie: publishing. Its program is based on the complementary and interactive nature of five main areas: conservation, dissemination, artistic and cultural transmission, support for research and creation, and publishing.
