Jean-Louis Schoellkopf uses his camera as a tool for activism: for 50 years, he has been entering factories and slipping into workshops, standing alongside the workers to photograph their work. It’s a vast subject.
“You can never really see it—it involves spending hours doing the same thing—but you can see the effects on people’s bodies.”
For him, the act of photography is an exchange with the person he is photographing—a matter of person-to-person connection. This unassuming photographer has settled in Mulhouse, a historic industrial hub, to document the changes in the organization of work and the living environments of the working class.
