Cathedrals for the Visual Culture

This project focuses on installations in the form of “  walls of images ” presented in the 1960s and 1970s within the Gens d’images circle, which took on a stable form in the Cathedral of Images opened in 1977 in Les Baux-de-Provence. 

Taking a critical approach and placing these projects in historical context, this research aims not only to situate them within the long-term history of collective consumption and the public experience of images, but also to understand how they contribute to a “  image-based civilization  "which seeks to assert itself in the face of a text-based culture."
