Agnès Geoffray and Vanessa Desclaux at the Photaumnales

As part of the 23rd edition of the Photaumnales, the city of Clermont is hosting the photography exhibition elles obliquent / elles obstinent / elles tempêtent, dedicated to the work of photographer Agnès Geoffray. A unique project that was made possible in part thanks to the support of the Institut pour la photographie.

On view from September 20 to December 6, 2026, the exhibition elles obliquent / elles obstinent / elles tempêtent ("they veer / they are stubborn / they rage") explore the archives of the "conservation schools", correctional facilities for minors that closed in 1951. A long-term research project conducted jointly by artist Agnès Geoffray and art historian Vanessa Desclaux.

This project was supported and developed as part of the 2023 edition of our Grant Program to support research and artistic creation. Following an exhibition at the Jeu de Paume in Paris, then at the Rencontres d'Arles, elles obliquent / elles obstinent / elles tempêtent is once again meeting with the public, this time in the Hauts-de-France region.
