Study Day - Pierre Dubreuil: Perspectives from Different Angles

The Institut pour la photographie and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille are teaming up for a study day centered on the exhibition Pierre Dubreuil - Photographic Paintings (1872–1944).

This event will bring together six French, Belgian, and Swiss specialists in late 19th- and early 20th-century photography. It will provide an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the work of this artist from Lille, who enjoyed international recognition during his lifetime but whose work remains largely unknown today. 

These various presentations will explore Pierre Dubreuil’s unique place among Pictorialist photographers and within the photographic societies of northern France, his connections to the American Photo-Secession, the influence of Belgian art on his work, and the role and symbolism of objects in his photographs.
