Interview - Bettina Rheims with Paul Martineau
An interview conducted in connection with the exhibition Bettina Rheims - “Why Did You Abandon Me?”, presented at the Charles Nègre Museum of Photography in Nice in 2024.
The Institut pour la photographie, which houses the photographer’s entire archive, suggested that the artist speak with Paul Martineau, curator of photography at the J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles).
A unique opportunity to (re)discover the work and incredible career of Bettina Rheims, who has left her mark on the history of her medium since the 1980s, through her celebrity portraits and elaborate staged shots that reveal her sense of perfection and her interest in storytelling and ambiguity.
