The 1 June 2023
Harry Gruyaert and the Sense of Place. A beam of light sweeping across a northern beach, the pop colors of a cafeteria, a couple dining in front of a floor-to-ceiling window… Harry Gruyaert moves through these spaces and captures their atmosphere in graphic compositions that transcend the banality of everyday life.
His passion for film led him to create a series of films A Sense of Place (The Sense of Place). These short videos feature a sequence of photographs of the same area, set to original music by Tuur Florizoone. This project gave the Belgian photographer the opportunity to revisit his selection of images and, using digital tools, rework the color palette of the images originally shot on Kodachrome film. Brigitte Patient met with him in his studio in Paris for a casual conversation.
The opening image of this episode is one of 160 from A Sense of Place / North , to be screened at the Hauts-de-France Institut pour la photographie this spring 2023. The episode is accompanied by an original score composed by Tuur Florizoone. The film will be screened on June 7 at La Fileuse in Loos at 8:00 p. m., with Harry Gruyaert and composer Tuur Florizoone in attendance.
