Long-cut sawyers

In 1900, in my village surrounded by forests, one in two working-age residents was employed in the wood processing industry. 

Today, even though this industry remains significant, this traditional approach to woodworking is gradually disappearing. I therefore document its trades and sites, which are part of our industrial heritage and are now under threat.

The series  Long-cut sawyers this article features a sawmill in the Oise region, run by three generations of sawmillers—passed down from father to son—who possess a deep understanding of the various tree species and woodworking.  The mill, which has undergone little modernization, still relies on the expertise of these men. 

It is expected to close, like dozens of others in France, due to the threat posed by the modernization of international sawmills.
