Those Days Were So Orange & Living with a Broken Leg and Raising a Child

Pavlo Yaremak, a Ukrainian photographer, is presenting two projects.

Those Days Were So Orange is a project steeped in melancholy that looks back on a youth spent sharing a loft in the city of Lviv, Ukraine.

For nearly three years, Pavlo lived with nine roommates in a small one-bedroom apartment near the Opera House. With three residents at a time, the apartment’s composition was constantly changing, forming a fragile micro-community that has now become an archive of daily life and unique human relationships.

On February 24, 2022, they were forced to flee the war, leaving behind this apartment filled with memories. Their friends are now scattered to the four corners of the world. All that remains are the memories and photographs of this space—especially of those summers bathed in orange light, when sunsets blended into thunderstorms.

"Living with a Broken Leg and Raising a Child" is a this photo essay follows Marta, Pavlo’s sister, who is raising her two-year-old son, Andrii, in the village of Obolonnya. Due to a leg injury, her mobility is limited, so she needs constant assistance.

through a series of photographs, Pavlo depicts their bond and the importance of family support during this time. Since the war began, his family has left the city to settle in the village, which has brought them closer together and reshaped their daily lives.
