Sainte-Gertrude Residence

A long-term investigation at a Brussels nursing home, this project is a photographic exploration of loss, forgetfulness, loneliness, isolation, and confinement among the elderly.

Having reached an age when they have already lost so much—their sight, their hearing, their strength, their memory, friends as well—the residents of the Sainte-Gertrude Retirement Home are living out the final stage of their lives on the margins of society, without income or family ties. Yet within them remains a strong desire to tell their stories, to pass on their experiences, to share, and to live, no matter what happens.

This project was shown twice in Brussels as part of group exhibitions and received the Out of the Box Award as part of the Prix Médiatine 24.
