Photographer
Born in France, Justine Dofal is based in Brussels.
Through portraits, documentary series, and participatory projects, she seeks to shift perspectives on social issues and to place marginalized people back at the center of the image.
Influenced by her background in sociology and social work, her photography seeks to examine power structures, particularly by exploring the concepts of territory, memory, traces, and transmission. She combines various photographic techniques and juxtaposes images with other media (testimonies, archives, maps, sound, video, collages, etc.) to examine the very role of photography in the reproduction and perpetuation of inequalities.
In December 2023, she graduated from the Agnès Varda School of Photography and Visual Techniques in Brussels. She also leads creative photography workshops for marginalized individuals, with the goal of empowering them to take an active role in shaping their own image.
