Éric Leleu
A collection of snapshots taken over the past eight years, primarily in France and Japan.
Sometimes these are “stand-alone” images; other times, they’re part of a more narrative-driven project. I’m first drawn in by the light, and then I use black to bring a sense of restraint to the color. By capturing these moments, I seek to unleash a form of poetry while also bearing witness to our times.
This selection is the result of a journey spanning some fifteen years: the time it took to understand and come to terms with the fact that black is the foundation of color, its base, its pedestal. In photography, as in other fields, black lends elegance to color.
