What if Bernadette had dreamed of the darkness...

What if Bernadette had dreamed of the darkness...  is a visual exploration of the replicas of the Lourdes Grotto.

Drawing on the thousands of copies scattered around the world—particularly in Belgium—this project explores the symbolic significance of these places of worship and the role of spirituality in the contemporary world.

Alternating between rigorous black-and-white documentation and more free-form images—whether reworked or recomposed—he weaves a narrative that blends collective memory, magic, and territory. By posing the fictional question: what if Bernadette had dreamed of darkness instead of the Immaculate Conception? , the aim here is to open up a new narrative, to explore what spirituality can still weave between people and places.

This work in progress—which is both an archive and a creative project—evolves as fieldwork progresses and will soon incorporate video, testimonials, and sculpture.
