The Wrongs of Ghosts

The Wrongs of Ghosts   was born out of an obsession: to rediscover the voices of queer people from the Maghreb who, in France, have been part of social struggles yet have never found a place in the official narratives. 

through archival research, data collection, testimonies, and visual and textual fragments, Sido  Lansari  seeks to bring to light forgotten figures who, as early as the 1980s, explored the intersections of representation, social struggles, homosexuality, and exile. 

This research draws in particular on the history of the Lahzem collective and on the exploration of dormant archives—whether media-related or personal—that are often marked by forms of invisibilization, fetishization, or symbolic reduction. By examining the conditions under which these images were produced—whether amateur, journalistic, obsolete, or repurposed—this research project seeks to develop a photographic language capable of giving voice to lives that have long been deprived of representation. 

The Wrongs of Ghosts   is a slow investigation, interwoven with vanished places, missing images, and nearly erased stories. It is not a matter of filling the void of oblivion, but of repairing it, making room for it, and transforming it into a living substance. The project asserts that there is a possible memory here, a legacy that has been interrupted but not extinguished. 

More than just a work of reconstruction, it offers a space for collective reflection on how images create, erase, or transform stories. It is not merely a matter of looking back, but of asking what those who are absent can still tell us today, and how their fragmentary presences can inspire new forms of storytelling, solidarity, and transmission.
