Led by photographer Julien Pitinome and the Institut pour la photographie, the project Family Portraits takes the tradition of the family portrait as its starting point to collectively explore its evolution in light of new practices in image-making.
By combining different approaches to the medium of photography—from film to digital—the project draws on the connections and exchanges that images can inspire and forge between different generations. It intrinsically explores representations of the family, the various forms and meanings the family can take on today, and the contemporary issues underlying them—whether economic, territorial, temporal, symbolic, cultural, or otherwise.
Launched in the Ternois region for its first phase, the project involved various meetings and engagements with residents, as well as workshops at local recreation centers. It was then featured in an exhibition in 2025.
