Raquel Schefer

Researcher, filmmaker, and programmer

Raquel Schefer was born in Porto in 1981.

Ph. D. In Film and Audiovisual Studies from Sorbonne Nouvelle University — Paris 3, with a dissertation on Mozambican revolutionary cinema and the cinema of the Liberation movement; she also holds a Master’s degree in Documentary Film from the University of Cinema in Buenos Aires and a Master’s degree in Communication and Film from the New University of Lisbon. 

In 2008, Raquel published the book Self-Portraiture in Documentary Film ( Self-Portraiture in Documentary Film ) in Argentina, as well as numerous book chapters and articles. 

She was a postdoctoral research fellow in Film Studies at the University of Grenoble Alpes, a lecturer at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University — Paris 3, at the University of Paris Est — Marne-la-Vallée, at the University of Rennes 2, at the University of Cinema in Buenos Aires, and at the University of Communication in Mexico City. 

In addition, Raquel was a visiting researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is currently conducting postdoctoral research in the arts at the University of Lisbon and the University of the Western Cape, while also serving as co-editor of the journal of film theory and aesthetics La Furia  Umana .
