Hélène Giannecchini

Born in 1987, Hélène Giannecchini holds a Ph. D. In literature and specializes in the relationship between text and image; her work lies at the intersection of literature, history, and art theory.

Her dissertation, which she defended in 2016, focused on the photographer and writer Alix Cléo Roubaud. She also curated her first retrospective at the National Library of France in 2014. She has been the director of the Alix Cléo Roubaud Fund since 2009.

In 2018–2019, she was a resident at the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici . In 2021, she was an artist-in-residence at the National Dance Center in Pantin and, in 2022, at the Villa Albertine in San Francisco.

She has published with Éditions du Seuil, in the “La Librairie du XXIe siècle” series, An Image That Might Be True   in 2014, To see with one's own eyes  in 2020 and An Overwhelming Desire for Friendship in 2024. Her current work, based on a research-creation methodology, focuses on minority archives from the second half of the 20th century and on the relationship between exhibitions and literature. 

Hélène Giannecchini is the curator of Donna Gottschalk’s first exhibition, which opens at the BAL in Paris in June 2025 and then at the Photographer’s Gallery in London in February 2026. In 2025, they will publish a book together dedicated to the exhibition.

She is an associate member of the Center for Research on the Arts and Language (CRAL), affiliated with EHESS and the CNRS.
