Grégory Chatonsky

Since the mid-1990s, Grégory Chatonsky has been working on the Web, which has led him to explore the new forms of fiction emerging from the network. 

beginning in 2001, he began a series exploring dislocation, the aesthetics of ruins, and extinction as a phenomenon that is inextricably both artificial and natural. Over the years, he has turned his attention to the ability of machines to produce, in a quasi-autonomous manner, results that resemble human-made creations.

These three issues have converged thanks to artificial imagination, which uses data accumulated on the Web as training material for artificial intelligence in order to produce a likeness. In the context of a possible extinction of the human species, AI thus appears as an attempt to create a monument in advance that would endure after our disappearance.

He was a teacher at the Fresnoy , at the UQAM and now to Artec . He was a research associate at the ENS Ulm and the University of Geneva (Unige).
