Claire Fasulo

Claire Fasulo lives and works in Lille. 

As a photographer, she has been documenting the turmoil of the world for more than twenty years. Her photographs have been published in the The New York Times , Le Monde, L’Humanité, La Voix du Nord, Les Inrockuptibles, Le Point, Le Vif and the magazine Persona . The public has also been able to see them in exhibitions in Lille and Paris, as well as on album covers and the covers of contemporary novels.

She presents her project Attraction-Repulsion, 2021–2022 at the Institut pour la photographie in 2023, as part of its programming Fall at the Institute .

“I compose my images as suspended scenes, straddling the line between reality and fiction. I explore wandering in all its forms: that of a body searching for its place, of a mind that is losing its way, of an emotion floating between two states. 
My photographs often arise from that fleeting moment when something wavers, when the world seems both familiar and foreign. I like to work in these areas of transition. 
A body turns away or fades into the background, a face disappears beneath a strand of hair, a place loses its purpose, an object becomes almost alive. 
These are fragments of reality that I shift and stretch so that they reveal something else—a tension, an absence, a sense of unease. Above all, I’m seeking to create a certain atmosphere.
