Théo Esparon, a doctoral student in film history, is writing a dissertation at the University of Paris-Nanterre on the art collection and films of the Austro-American director Josef von Sternberg. He is the author of an essay titled The Appeal of the Carnival  (Yellow Now Publishing, 2022).

Through various examples from film and in connection with Attraction-Repulsion , Claire Fasulo’s installation featuring images of a carnival, he will speak with the photographer about the fascination—somewhere between disaster and ecstasy—that carnivals hold.

A guided tour with commentary by two guides will be offered on Sunday, December 17, at 2:00 p. m.
