Photographer and filmmaker
Cédric Gerbehaye was born in Brussels in 1977.
His work focuses particularly on the human condition and human rights, exploring places that are both distant and familiar through long-term photographic projects, web documentaries, and documentary films. He is also an Explorer for the National Geographic Society and a regular contributor to National Geographic Magazine.
His photographs have won numerous awards, including the World Press Photo, the Olivier Rebbot Award from the Overseas Press Club of America, the Amnesty International Media Award, and others.
He is the author of seven books published by The Upturned Beak : Congo in Limbo (2010), Land of Cush (2013), Sète#13 (2013), Of these (2015), Zoonosis (2022). Kashmir. Wait & See (2025) and Cévennes#1 (2026). He also directed a feature-length documentary, The Punishment (2024), released in theaters.
In 2026, he published, again with Le Bec en l’air, Panoptik, an unprecedented look inside Brussels’ prisons, where a century of images reveals the reality, the history, and the transformations of incarceration.
