"Présents," a photo collection by La Conserverie

Throughout the weekend, The Canning Factory , an archive dedicated to vernacular photography based in Metz, is continuing its 12th collection, titled Present , which focuses on photographs within photographs and showcases the images already collected for this occasion.

This fundraiser pays tribute to photography—the act of taking, viewing, preserving, cherishing, savoring, and, here, photographing a photograph. To the images passed from hand to hand during a meal, to those pinned to a refrigerator, placed on a piece of furniture in front of which a child stands, to those deliberately displayed as representations of those who are absent; photographs rephotographed, sometimes by chance. These are the photos we all have in our homes. Taken so long ago, or almost just the day before yesterday; of great aesthetic quality, or not really—they represent one facet of our relationship with photography.

To participate, bring your family photos that feature other photos (frames, albums, prints, etc.)! The team at La Conserverie will scan them on site, return them to you, and add your contribution to this major project.

The drop-off location will be in Hall B of the Saint Sauveur Train Station. Through September 27, you can also view a continuous screening of the images that have already been digitized.

This project has been designated a "Bicentennial of Photography" project by the Ministry of Culture
