Lecture by Danièle Méaux

In conjunction with the EN QUÊTE program, the Institute invites Danièle Méaux, author of the book  Investigations: New Forms of Documentary Photography  (Filigranes, 2019), who will be presenting her research conducted as part of her publication. She will be in conversation with photographer Bertrand Meunier, whose series I'm from Here – Residence #2  is on display at the Institute; the discussion will be followed by a book-signing.

« Some contemporary photographers conceive of their works as field investigations—or archival research—and the formats they use to present their work (books, websites, or installations) tend to draw the viewer into a questioning of reality. Their approaches thus mark a renewal of documentary photographic practices. They benefit from being analyzed according to a pragmatic model that departs from dualistic conceptions of representation and engages in dialogue with methods adopted in the humanities.  »

as part of its second program  IN SEARCH OF , the Institut pour la photographie is launching a lecture series.
The first session is devoted to the concept of inquiry, in line with the program, and features Danièle Méaux (professor of aesthetics and art sciences at the University of Saint-Étienne), who will present her book  Investigations. New Forms of Documentary Photography  (2009), in conversation with photographer Bertrand Meunier.

The second session is devoted to preservation, featuring Bertrand Lavédrine (an expert in photographic heritage preservation techniques), author of the book  identifying and Preserving Old Photographs  (2007).
The third, in connection with the exhibition  Chaplin and The Dictator , in partnership with Citéphilo, is hosting Christophe Cognet to celebrate the publication of his book  snapshots: Secret Photographs of Nazi Camps  (2019) in conversation with Annette Wieviorka (historian).
