The Rustling of Images

Matthieu Gafsou at the Brasserie

Exhibition

As part of our first off-site program, the Institut pour la photographie is partnering with La Brasserie to present Matthieu Gafsou’s photographic work, created following a residency in our region. The series Alive the exhibition, organized by the Institute, will be on display simultaneously at both venues starting September 10 in Lille and September 15 at La Brasserie.

The goal is to discover the work of farming and livestock raising and to celebrate our living heritage. The Hauts-de-France region, characterized by its vast expanses of farmland, does not immediately bring to mind the kinds of landscapes that captivate the eye. The often-overlooked charm of our region seems buried beneath our daily routines, commutes, and hurried journeys. Yet ponds, woods, rivers, meadows, fields, and idyllic landscapes reveal themselves to us if we only take the time to look. Now is the time to slow down and discover the small-scale producers in our countryside. The Franco-Swiss photographer Matthieu Gafsou has taken a close look at this subject.
