Sage Corps is a project that seeks to depict, in a candid and abstract way, a body that has lived and continues to live.
He goes out of his way to show us all the aesthetic richness right there, before our eyes. I’ve seen my grandmother’s body change so many times—whether through the surgeries that caused her to lose a tremendous amount of weight or through life itself, which has put her through—and continues to put her through—trials. Wrinkles are becoming more and more apparent “because” of age, but that’s not the only reason.
I see her changing, renewing herself, becoming more gaunt, growing weary. I still see beauty in these shapes, these lines, the texture of her skin, her body hair, her pimples, and her hair, which is losing its thickness, becoming softer, and turning increasingly gray and white.
I saw shapes disappear, shrink, and change. I was used to being around those curves, those rolls of flesh, those breasts—everything that seemed endearing and comforting through my child’s eyes.
