straddling genres, Lucas Leffler's work draws on documentary and experimental film and flirts with fiction. 

The artist readily assumes the role of an investigator, both to explore the technical aspects of photography—demonstrating an unquenchable thirst for experimentation—and to trace the thread of history, unearthing astonishing forgotten myths. 

The history of the places he investigates is as much a part of the work as his experiments with the medium, whose limits he pushes beyond its two dimensions.  The artist focuses his explorations on the mineral and chemical properties of silver through his project Zilverbeek , where he sets out to track down the precious metal discarded by a photographic supplies company, as well as in his recent reenactments of August Strindberg’s “celestographies” and Lilly Kolisko’s silver nitrate experiments. 

He explores the themes of alchemy and anthroposophy, examines time-honored processes and materials—and, through them, the place of humanity and its rituals within its own history—and discovers the nature of the connections thus formed.
