Arrival of a New Photographic Archive Collection

Pierre Zucca

In 2021, the Institut pour la photographie acquired the archives of photographers Bettina Rheims, Jean-Louis Schoellkopf, and Agnès Varda. This year, it is acquiring the photographic collection of Pierre Zucca (1943–1995).

From his set photos for films by Chabrol, Malle, Rivette, and Truffaut, to his collaborations with authors such as Pierre Klossowski and Liliane Siegel, and including his photo essays, Pierre Zucca’s archives comprise nearly 10,000 photographic prints and span a period from the mid-1950s to the late 1970s.

The acquisition of this collection marks a new milestone in the Institute’s mission to preserve cultural heritage and sets the stage for its teams to embark on a long-term effort to catalog, conserve, study, and share a unique and still relatively unknown body of work, which will be unveiled over the coming weeks and months.
