Project Class - Exploring the Photobook

This project-based class was developed in collaboration with the École Louise de Bettignies, the Marguerite Yourcenar Media Library, and the City of Faches-Thumesnil. It allowed 21 first- and second-grade students to immerse themselves in the world of the photo book.

The Project

This week-long artistic immersion program for first- and second-grade students at Louise de Bettignies School was launched in January 2025 through a collaboration between the staff of the Marguerite Yourcenar Media Library in Faches-Thumesnil and the Outreach Department of the Institut pour la photographie.

They immersed themselves in the worlds of children’s photo books. Through a series of workshops on photography and image interpretation, stories began to take shape among the groups of students. Inspired by this experience and their encounter with Jan von Holleben—a photographer, publisher, and author of children’s photo books—the children created a small picture book in which they themselves are the main characters, hidden behind this cheerful cast of masked creatures.
