Alive was able to develop thanks to the active collaboration of the Pas-de-Calais department and the project Photosensitive .
Concerned about the ecological and environmental challenges that define our era, the 7th-grade Art and Culture students at Collège Albert Camus in Outreau carried out a project centered on Alive , a project that Swiss photographer Matthieu Gafsou has been working on since 2019.
He explores the connections we forge with nature and the relationships we maintain with our own environment. His images invite us to rethink humanity’s place within the living world, situating it within the realm of the sensory.
The various stages of this project—workshops on interpreting images, meetings and discussions with Matthieu Gafsou, and workshops on photography—enabled the middle school students to engage with the questions raised by this project by designing an exhibition, which was presented at their school.
They thus conceived a dialogue between Matthieu Gafsou’s photographs and their own images, created in response to them. In the publication resulting from this project, perspectives and viewpoints overlap through a play of transparency to create a multifaceted landscape, tinged with their personal convictions and shared hopes.
