Passages

Passages  is a project conceived by the Institute and Mathieu Farcy, for and with the children and teenagers supported by Valloires Enfance.

The Project

featuring Mathieu Farcy

This medical-social facility operated by Child Welfare Services currently serves 220 children—from birth through the age of majority—who require foster care, as well as children who need specific therapeutic support.

Structured as an artist-in-residence program, the project unfolds over time with the children, centered on the transitions they wish to understand and navigate: from childhood to adolescence, their respective personal circumstances, and the transition unique to this place, which—for several weeks, months, or years—becomes their home.

Far from seeking to adopt a strictly documentary or memorial approach, the project embraces fiction by inviting its participants to create stories together. The collectively created fictional narratives will also serve as pathways and projections toward a future—as spaces in which to imagine possibilities and alternative ways of being in the world.
