Marine Educational Areas

The Project Marine Educational Areas was launched in 2022 and continued through 2025. It was carried out in classrooms at seven different middle schools, in collaboration with the Pas-de-Calais Department.

The Project

Since the 2022–2023 school year, the Institute’s outreach team—at the invitation of the Pas-de-Calais Department—has been working alongside other educators in the fields of science, sports, and environmental organizations, working with middle school students participating in the Marine Educational Areas, organized by the Conservatoire du Littoral de la Côte d’Opale.

A program of reading and hands-on workshops combining photography, the maritime environment, and societal issues specific to this region was developed for students at the Jean Moulin middle school (Le Portel), Langevin (Boulogne-sur-Mer), Paul Éluard (Saint-Étienne-au-Mont), Pilâtre de Rozier (Wimille), Angelier (Boulogne-sur-Mer), Jean Moulin (Berck-sur-Mer), and Jean Jaurès (Etaples) over the years.

Since 2024, support for these classes—in addition to workshops raising awareness about the photographic representations and uses of coastal areas—has expanded to include hands-on photography workshops at the natural sites associated with each class. The photographic material thus created enriches the study conducted by these classes throughout the school year and contributes to their unique projects in various ways.
