Audio description makes a variety of visual content—such as performances, movies, TV shows, and photographs—accessible to people who are visually impaired or blind.

In collaboration with PAF, the Institut pour la photographie has developed several projects with students from the Ignace Pleyel Regional School for the Visually Impaired (ERDV) in Loos. Together, they have created audio descriptions of certain photographs featured in the institute’s exhibition programs.

These audio descriptions were inspired by conversations among young adolescents with cognitive or visual disabilities. They invite us to take a fresh look at the photographs and to reflect on the ways in which we can interpret and share them. Made accessible to everyone in the Institute’s exhibition spaces, the audio texts that formed the basis of these descriptions evoked a wealth of mental images—to be heard and imagined.
