Thomas Sauvin

Artist and collector

Born in 1983, Thomas Sauvin has a multifaceted career: collector, publisher, artist, curator, “ image saver ».

After traveling throughout China for more than ten years on behalf of the organization and publisher Archive of Modern Conflict based in London, where his mission is to collect and preserve photographs, he embarks on an extraordinary adventure: gathering negatives abandoned at a recycling center north of Beijing that were destined for destruction. He carries out one of the most colossal and significant archival projects in China.

Since 2009, his quest to collect vernacular photographs in China has led him to build an archive of more than 850,000 photographs. This project is titled Beijing Silvermine .
