Rossella Piccinno

Rossella Piccinno was born in Salento, finis terrae apulian Italian, in 1978. 

She holds a master’s degree in Documentary and Experimental Cinematography from the University of Bologna (Italy) and a degree in Contemporary Arts and New Media from the National Studio of Contemporary Arts, Le Fresnoy (Pina Bausch Class of 2009–2011), in France, in the Lille metropolitan area, where she currently lives.

Since 2006, her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions and at several festivals in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. Her films have received numerous awards; in 2011, she won the Friends of Le Fresnoy Award for Best Installation. Her research has been supported by numerous fellowships and production grants, including those from the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Culture and Diversity Foundation, the Ligue de l’enseignement, the Hauts-de-France Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC), the Apulia Film Commission, the “Ritorno al Futuro” fellowship, Artois Comm. / Labanque, etc. 

In recent years, she has worked as an artist-in-residence in England, France, Italy, Romania, and Iceland. In 2015, she was an official member of the jury for the Al Jazeera International Documentary Film Festival , in Doha, Qatar. 

Since 2017, she has been a professor of Digital Photography and History of Contemporary Artistic Practices at the City of Lille’s Center for Plastic and Visual Arts. Since 2018, she has been teaching a seminar on the Aesthetic Analysis of 20th-Century Art in the Cultural Studies bachelor’s program at the University of Lille.

In September 2019, she passed the open competitive examination for the position of local government arts teacher, specializing in visual arts, with a focus on film and video.
