Romane Riquier

A graduate of the Tourcoing and Aix-en-Provence Schools of Fine Arts, Romane Riquier lives and works in the Hauts-de-France region, 

She has developed a multidisciplinary practice that blends publishing, writing, photography, video, performance, and sound. Her work examines the artist’s place in contemporary society by exploring themes such as transmission, memory, and individual and collective narratives. Drawing on ethnology and journalism, her video work might resemble documentaries influenced by the Striptease . In her view, certain marginalized and invisible communities are collective forces that are essential to the progress of our society. She seeks to poetically highlight individual stories, dialogues, and circumstances. Her work is a form of peaceful yet passionate activism, employing a variety of media chosen to best convey the message.

In 2021, she founded “ The House " in Lens, a contemporary art center located in a former tavern that was converted into a family home when his parents moved there in 1974. This alternative venue offers exhibitions visible from the street, educational programs, workshops, and guided tours of the coal-mining region, with the goal of making contemporary art more accessible and understandable to the public.

Among his notable projects are “ Danced Examples ", created in collaboration with Ju Bourgain as part of the " In progress "from the Ateliers Médicis. This project draws inspiration from a historical phenomenon known as the 'St. Guy's Dance,' which occurred in Strasbourg in 1518, to create a work that blends music, dance, and personal stories. Romane produced the music and co-directed this project, which became ' Moon in Virgo ", a show scheduled to be performed at the Actoral International Festival of Contemporary Arts & Literature in Marseille in October 2024.

Romane Riquier has also participated in numerous exhibitions and performances, notably at the Onze Box studio in Lille, the Kilomètre25 techno club in Paris, and the Les Capucins Contemporary Art Center in Embrun. Her photographic works have been published in magazines such as Kaltblut Magazine and Vogue Italia (online).
