Adopting the perspective of an anthropologist and drawing on the tools of her art—installation, photography, video, and sound recording—Maureen Ragoucy builds her work around the encounters she initiates.
She offers a sober and sensitive perspective on the question of a person’s connection between their community of origin and their adopted community, and on the relationship between the particular and the universal. By linking the concept of exile to that of identity, issues of family, transmission, intimacy, and memory are revealed in a fresh light.
