Martin Parr

Born in Epsom in 1952, Martin Parr is one of the most renowned documentary photographers of his generation. He lives and works in Bristol, where he opened his foundation—the Martin Parr Foundation—in 2017. 

He studied at Manchester Polytechnic from 1970 to 1973 and joined the Magnum agency in 1994. With some 100 published photography books and a personal archive of 50,000 photographs, he is recognized worldwide as a major and prolific figure in contemporary British photography. His photographs have been included in the collections of major museums such as MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou, and the Tate Modern in London, and several solo exhibitions have been dedicated to his work. 

Infused with realism, Martin Parr surprises viewers with the astonishing, kitschy motifs in his photographs and the unusual perspectives he employs. The colors are vivid, the light almost garish, and humor is very often present. He offers a unique yet always accessible and direct vision of the world and society. His photography, simple and straightforward, is always striking. 

Sometimes described as a chronicler of his time, Martin Parr is also a passionate enthusiast and collector of unusual objects and vernacular photography; his collaboration with The Anonymous Project was therefore a natural fit. 

He died on December 6, 2025.
