Laëtitia Galita

Born in Laon in 1984, I now live in Faches Thumesnil and work in Lille. For the past two years, I have been working in a studio located at La Pouponnière in Lille, a space dedicated to artistic creation, research, and experimentation, where I have set up my own darkroom.

With a degree in psychology, I specialized in environmental social psychology to better understand human beings and their relationships with the world around them. In 2016, I studied at the Centre d’Arts Plastiques et Visuels in Lille, where I discovered the magic of the darkroom and black-and-white printing.

My approach is part of a slow, contemplative, and experimental practice, fueled by wandering, observation, and chance. I am interested in what photography can reveal about memory, our recollections, and our identity. Using alternative film photography processes allows me to approach photography as a tangible image. For me, it is a means of bringing to light what eludes us, of making perceptible what slips away, of capturing and revealing traces, fragments of memory, and emotions experienced—sometimes shifting and fleeting—but which contribute to the construction of our identity. Aware of my own difficulties in recalling the past, I most often revisit my own memories and feelings, piecing together traces that are sometimes blurry, sometimes fragmentary, allowing chance and the material itself to guide my hand.
