Emmanuelle Fructus

Born in 1972, Emmanuelle Fructus lives and works in Paris.

Collecting anonymous photographs has been at the heart of Emmanuelle Fructus’s work for several years. In 2006, she created A book—an image , a framework that allows him to explore family photography by acquiring collections of documentary images. 

In his exhibition 6110, presented at the Institut pour la photographie in 2019, Emmanuelle Fructus takes over the “ poverty "of vernacular photography by creating unique collages of thousands of cut-out figures. His works contain subtle references both to the technical history of photography and to the codes of social representation stemming from this popular practice."

Observing these low-quality images, cataloging them, and classifying them fuel reflection on amateur photography: a vast number of images, stereotypical and mundane. These hundreds of thousands of images are generally overlooked, and that is where Emmanuelle Fructus’s work begins: finding a place for them.
