Cliff Chan

Cliff Chan, who graduated in 2017 from the École Supérieure des Arts de Saint-Luc in Tournai, Belgium, lives and works in Lille. 

His work revolves around issues of intimacy and identity: his own, but also that of others. He pays particular attention to notions of the body, sensations, and nature. He likes to highlight our environment and capture the quirks of everyday life by celebrating individuality. Understanding our connection to the world around us, so we can better grasp and embrace it. 

His current body of work consists of moments of life captured on film, performative acts, and visual experiments. With a perspective that aims to be warm and contemporary, Cliff Chan seeks to weave together—like a diary—a sensitive vision of his unique story. Indeed, living with osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease)—a rare genetic disorder that has marked not only his body but, above all, his existence and sensibility—he has spent the past few years striving to create images imbued with this singularity. Through his practice, he seeks to give new meaning to this apparent defect. As if to mark the uniqueness of his being, his artistic exploration is rooted in the desire to capture beauty within imperfection.
