Bingo-Photo-Rake

The Institut pour la photographie is organizing Bingos-Photo-Rake   conceived by Cécile Hupin and Katherine Longly in the playful spirit of the exhibition Just My Luck. Moments of camaraderie and laughter, punctuated by photographs and incredible anecdotes.

As a follow-up to their exhibition Just My Luck  To be presented at the Théâtre du Nord from February 21 to July 5, 2025, the Institut pour la photographie invited Belgian artists Cécile Hupin and Katherine Longly to develop a participatory project with the regulars and owners of various PMU bars on the occasion of Fiesta , the 7th edition of lille3000. This unique project builds on the work the artists have been doing for several years exploring our relationship with luck and money.

starting in September 2024, Cécile Hupin and Katherine Longly met with numerous bar patrons and owners in the Lille metropolitan area.
They shared stories, anecdotes, and personal insights; they chatted; and, above all, they photographed the 75 bingo numbers together, thereby creating a playful visual lexicon of the PMU.

In the four “photo-rake” bingo games hosted by the two artists in June and September 2025, these photographs hold a very special place. Far from winning you the car or the villa of your dreams, these offbeat, performance-style bingo games invoke luck and bad luck only to celebrate camaraderie, sharing, laughter, and a game free of any stakes!

The first Bingo-Photo-Rake took place on June 19 at the Théâtre du Nord; the next three will be held in La Madeleine, Wasquehal, and Lille.
