Between 2016 and 2020, Nina Ferrer-Gleize conducted research and creative work on the family farm, which is run by her uncle. An investigation unfolds around an unsigned milk purchase contract. For the past few months, as a continuation of this project, the artist has begun a new research project rooted in the Somme region. On the one hand, research into the “cahiers de doléances” (ledgers of grievances): first those of 1789, then those established 230 years later, in early 2019, in response to the Yellow Vests movement. What collective history is being written and told through these pages? What significance do these writings hold today if they are rendered inaccessible? Through practice and research, both of these projects aim to reflect on the role of writing in our daily lives, as well as on the constrained and thwarted relationships we have with writing and documents. During her presentation, Nina Ferrer-Gleize will discuss these two projects—one completed, the other just getting started.

Nina Ferrer-Gleize

Nina Ferrer-Gleize is a photographer, author, and publisher. Her book Agriculture as Writing was published in 2023 by GwinZegal. Her first solo exhibitions were held at Le Bleu du Ciel (Lyon, 2021) and the GwinZegal Art Center (Guingamp, 2023). She holds a Ph. D. In Creative Arts (ENSP, AMU, 2021) and a master’s degree in Literature and the Arts (Paris Cité, 2015); a DNSEP (HEAR-Strasbourg, 2013), and a degree from ESAL-Épinal (2011). Nina Ferrer-Gleize co-founded Pétrole Éditions in 2013. Since September 2022, she has been teaching at ISBA Besançon.
