Signature: ICONOLOGY by Mazaccio & Drowilal

Somewhere between an artist’s book, a scrapbook, and a multiple, the latest publication by the duo Mazaccio and Drowilal is part of the series Iconology launched in 2017.

The artists drew from their collection of images—which focuses specifically on digital cultures and the Internet—to create the diptychs for this edition, numbered 1 through 20. Each piece is a chromogenic print mounted on cardboard screen-printed on the reverse side, onto which the artists apply paint, cut-out drawings, wallpaper, colored and holographic vinyl, flocked tape bearing their names, and spray paint.

By juxtaposing and enhancing these advertisements, internet memes, references to film and television, and masterpieces of art history, the duo reappropriates these icons and questions the way in which images shape the very concept of reality.
Each edition is unique and consists of 12 collages created by the artists and bound together with colorful straps.
