The Pasquero Workshop

A Photographic Adventure in Lille - Hospice Comtesse, March 31–July 2

drawing on a selection of more than 260 photographs, objects, and documents from the studio of Jean and René Pasquero, the museum presents, for the first time in its entirety, the fascinating work of these two photographers from Lille, whose careers spanned nearly sixty years, from 1907 to 1969.

Acquired in 1972, this studio’s collection represents a unique documentary resource, both for its value as a record of the industrial, social, and architectural history of Lille and the metropolitan area, and for its cultural heritage value, illustrating the history of a profession that has evolved in step with technological progress—a profession of which Jean Pasquero was an ardent advocate.

Usimages Festival - Creil, April 15–June 11 

The Institut pour la photographie is pleased to collaborate on the 5th edition of USIMAGES, a biennial photography festival focusing on industrial heritage and labor, which explores the dual themes of energy and metallurgy through a program of 11 exhibitions spread across the municipalities of the Creil Sud Oise metropolitan area.

From April 15 to June 11, 2023, these outdoor exhibitions will be held in the towns of Cramoisy, Creil, Maysel, Montataire, Nogent-sur-Oise, Rousseloy, Saint-Leu d’Esserent, Saint-Maximin, Saint-Vaast-lès-Mello, Thiverny, and Villers-Saint-Paul.

International events and the changes we must consider in order to address the ecological crisis and the future challenges facing heavy industry have led us to focus the program of this biennial on these two themes, which are closely linked to the history of the Creil region.
This theme of energy is explored through several exhibitions that take us to the heart of the processes involved in generating these forms of energy. The photographs from the Pasquero collection focus on the installation of the electrical grid in the Hauts-de-France region beginning in 1912. This collection documents and features numerous views of the installation and erection of transmission towers and power lines built in the areas around Bruay and Béthune.
